The kids have decided there is a monster who lives here:
Not in the bathroom. No, no. This monster (who is, according to Rhys, pink and has long, lovely eyelashes) lives in the hole in the wall where the door latches shut.
I feel a bit sorry for this monster; this hole does not look at appealing in any way, shape or form. Like everything else in this house, it's hideous. Functional, but not at all aesthetically pleasing. But this, according to Noted Monster Experts Rhys, Ben, and Desi, is where she lives. And it is most definitely "she", as I was not-so-gently informed by (who else?) Rhys.
When I asked how a monster could possibly live in such a tiny hole, I was informed that "it's because she's tiny."
Like, duh, Mom. She's totally a tiny monster. How stupid are you?
When I asked what this monster does, Rhys informed me that she comes out at night. And when she comes out, she gets bigger. And then she goes into the girls' room, and then to Ben's room, and then to Mommy and Daddy's room.
"And what does she do while she's in each of the rooms?" I asked.
"She checks on us," said Rhys. "To make sure we're okay."
"And then what does she do?"
"She gets tiny again, and goes back to her house."
So we have acquired a big, protective pink monster. Who is actually tiny. But gets bigger when she comes out of her tiny hole. To check on us. And make sure we're okay.
Sounds like a pretty good monster to me. I think we'll keep her around for awhile.
